In pursuit of a Russian sleeper cell on American soil, CIA analyst Vivian Miller uncovers a dangerous secret that will threaten her job, her family—and her life. On track for a much-needed promotion, she’s developed a system for identifying Russian agents, seemingly normal people living in plain sight.

After accessing the computer of a potential Russian operative, Vivian stumbles on a secret dossier of deep-cover agents within America’s borders. A few clicks later, everything that matters to her—her job, her husband, even her four children—is threatened.‎

Vivian has vowed to defend her country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. But now she’s facing impossible choices. Torn between loyalty and betrayal, allegiance and treason, love and suspicion, who can she trust?

  • Not bad, for a first novel

    By Bcondon
Cleveland’s Need to Know is a page-turner. She knows how to tell a story that keeps the reader going, and that builds in appropriate surprises—nothing obvious here. Still, her main character, Vivian, is just too naive for a real CIA counterintelligence analyst working the Russia desk. That said, the novel rings true in many other ways, and the point of view is rare in spy fiction. We don’t see enough genuinely female protagonists. Vivian is definitely NOT some male author’s idea of a female spy. And that is definitely Cleveland’s achievement in the genre. I look forward to a sequel.

This is a story that grabs you almost immediately. From that point on, it’s a roller coaster of heart-stopping, hold-your-breath emotion, danger and what happens next. Viv is a CIA analyst on the Russia desk. How far would you go to protect your family? You won’t see it coming, believe me. A great read.

One of the best spy novels ever. Looking forward to the next novel.
  • Third rate highly predictable, obv. paid endorsements

Need I say more, very disappointed at what I thought were credible endorsements from reputable authors.
  • Need to Know

I bought and read this book, because John Grisham recommended it, but his last book was awful. This book was weak on story and plot, and the characters were NOT like able at all.
  • Transparent and lightweight

    By Redrider10
Very little rings true in this spy story. From the inept case worker to the undercover spy dad. Hard to believe the entire CIA and FBI are completely blind to their own inner workings.
  • Meh...

    By Dogma12345
What could/should have been an interesting puzzle never materialized. Too facile, shallow and predictable. I just didn't enjoy it very much. Hate that I spent $14 for this but perhaps this author can give us another story with more fully developed characters and a less obvious ending.
  • Need to Know needs more

Premise seemed interesting, but characters and how they handled various situations came off as naive and uninformed. Disappointed.
